Activists from around Tampa Bay rallied outside Port Tampa Bay (formerly Tampa Port Authority) on Monday in solidarity with the Sumud Flotilla attempting to get humanitarian supplies to Palestine.

The group organized by Tampa DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) included members of Pinnellas DSA, Tampa FRSO (Freedom Road Socialist Organization) and Tampa Bay SDS (USF’s Students for Democratic Society chapter), who rallied and gave out pamphlets to drivers entering the port.

The Spanish flotilla recently joined ships from Sicily and other countries to form a 40-vessel armada, which intends to challenge Israel’s naval blockade. The group was 1,000 miles from Gaza’s coast over the weekend, multiple outlets reported.

The Tampa protest was part of a mass mobilization from Italian trade union Union Sindacale di Base, which has organized port blockades and dockworker strikes in solidarity with Palestine and the flotilla.
